LHP’s pledge to build at least 60 new and affordable homes every year is now a reality – with that original target already being smashed.
Our latest figures show that LHP has invested in the purchase/building of 245 new homes since our launch last year. This figure, which takes into account developments that started in 2017 and were on-going at the time of our merger, sees residential developments spread right across our Lincolnshire area – from Grimsby to Boston.
And with scores more schemes coming to fruition in 2019, we are standing by our commitment to build ourselves, while linking with developers to offer new residential opportunities and helping to get people on the property ladder via the shared ownership scheme.
Our Chief Executive Murray Macdonald said: “When our Housing Partnership was formed, we made a commitment to become one of the best performing landlords in the country, offering lifetime tenancies and investing in providing more high-quality affordable homes. Our performance so far shows we are being true to our word, and this will continue.”
Murray was speaking after a national reported, released this week, highlighted the country’s chronic social housing shortage. A cross-party commission was launched after the Grenfell Tower disaster and its findings have just been revealed.
It says three-million new social homes are needed in the next 20 years - more than 6,000 a year. It further called for the launch of ‘the biggest council and social house building drive in history’ to rescue millions of people from a future in dangerous, overcrowded or unsuitable homes.
“Of course, we welcome the findings of the commission as a recognition of the need for social housing in England and pleased that it reflects what we are trying to do,” Murray added.
Our shared ownership properties currently on the market include sites on the old Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes, The Maples development at Holton-le-Clay and Humberston’s Par 3 in North East Lincolnshire. In East Lindsey they are at St James, Louth; Wesley Way, Horncastle and Kings Manor, Coninsgby. Properties at all these sites are being marketed now.
The properties are available for a mix of rented and shared ownership – the scheme that allows people the chance to purchase a share in a new build house.
Meanwhile LHP’s ‘Doer-Uppers’ scheme in urban Grimsby is proving popular. This project offers discounts for local residents of up to 35 per cent on homes in need of renovation. It is open to first-time buyers, as a step onto the property ladder.
