From Classroom to Workplace… Industry Placements Start Work

Four trainee electricians and plumbers are putting knowledge into practice through unique industry placements.

We’re giving Grimsby Institute students the opportunity to test and develop their technical skills in a real time work environment while receiving support from our experienced repairs and maintenance service.

Over the next year, the trainees – all studying for their Level 3 Technical education course – will spend one day a week in a relevant role at LHP.

Joining the workforce they will take part in a structured work plan, shadowing our qualified LHP employees carrying out repairs at any of the 7500 homes across North East Lincolnshire.

Liam Mackrill is a trainee electrician on the course. Liam said: “This placement gives me a better understanding of electrical processes and increases my chances of getting a permanent work placement here at LHP.”

LHP head of repairs and maintenance Ben Gothard said: “We’re really pleased to be able to establish this partnership with Grimsby Institute.

“We’re committed to generating local employment opportunities wherever possible and are delighted that we can help young people successfully complete their qualifications while preparing them for entering skilled employment.”

The programme is aimed at addressing skills shortages in young people, providing them with the potential to be work ready, engaged and motivated employees of the future.

FHE Skills and Employability Manager Chloe Tate said: “We are extremely proud to be working in collaboration with Lincolnshire Housing Partnership. This collaboration has enabled Grimsby Institute to provide construction students with quality and meaningful work placements.

“Through the work placements, Grimsby Institute students are able to hone their skills and prepare for the world of work by working alongside skilled tradespeople. We would like to thank Lincolnshire Housing Partnership for their continued support and for providing a valuable opportunity for students to put their learning into practice.”
