Home Décor

It can often be expensive to make a home your own but follow these hints and tips for cost effective ways to decorate on a budget.

Where to start

B&Q provide a number of guides on how to decorate and improve your home on their website

Please remember you must not carry out any structural repairs or other home improvements to your home, apart from cleaning and basic decorating, without our permission.

If you have asbestos materials in your home, you should take extra care when you are doing any DIY. Further advice is available here.

A helping hand from us

As an LHP tenant, if necessary, we’ll issue you with a decoration allowance for an agreed amount for you to either buy paint, wallpaper and other items to help decorate your home.

A splash of paint

Community RePaint (The Community RePaint network – Community RePaint) is a national scheme sponsored by Dulux that aims to collect leftover paint and redistribute it to individuals, families and communities in need. The paint has helped local groups and charities as well as low income households decorate their homes at low cost.

One person’s trash

Creatively reuse and transform everyday items by trying your hand at upcycling. You can cheaply and easily pick up unwanted items on sights like Freecycle, Preloved, eBay and Gumtree as well as local Facebook pages. Sometimes for free. What’s the saying – one person’s trash is another person’s treasure?

If you’re looking for inspiration there’s lots of step-by-step guides and amazing ideas on the internet – including You Tube tutorials on anything from painting old furniture to sewing clothes.

Upcycle projects are perfect for rainy day activities so get all the family involved.
