This New Service is Certainly Not ‘Rubbish’!

Carpets, doors, tyres and kitchens – that’s just some of the hundreds of tonnes of waste that was illegally dumped in North East Lincolnshire in 2018.

North East Lincolnshire Council has the job of dealing with this mounting problem and reports that more than 380-tonnes of rubbish was fly-tipped in the borough last year, costing £87,700 in disposal costs alone – with the true cost much higher, when you factor in staff time to investigate and clear sites. In total,1,858 fly-tips were reported in North East Lincolnshire in 2018 – an average of 36 incidents each week.

With the above in mind, the council has launched a new ‘bulky waste service’ – providing a low-cost disposal option across the borough, which is being supported by LHP.

The ‘Bulky Waste’ Collection Campaign started in late February and offers a council collection service.

The charges are as follows:

  • Any white goods can be collected at a cost of £10 per individual item;
  • Other non-white items – four will be taken away for one £20 charge, with extra items charged at £5 each.
  • A rapid collection service is available for an extra £5.

To use the service call 01472 326288 (Option 4) or you can book online.

Meanwhile, to report fly-tipping, visit North East Lincolnshire Council’s website and give as much information as possible. Alternatively, call 01472 326300.
