Government Support Package

This is a £400 grant from the government that all households with a domestic electricity supply will receive. You don’t need to apply for it. Your energy company will automatically apply it to your bills this autumn.

Some of the homes we manage do not have a domestic electricity supply and receive all their heat and power on a communal bill. It’s not yet clear if the government will extend this to people on communal bills but when we know we will let those affected know.

If you’re in council tax bands A to D, you will be eligible for a one-off payment of £150. This will come to you directly from the council, you don’t have to apply. If you’re not in bands A to D, you can apply to the council for help.

• This provides a one-off discount of £150 via your energy supplier if they’re part of the scheme and you or your partner are getting the ‘Guarantee Credit element’ of Pension Credit
• The discount for winter 2021 to 2022 has now closed and will reopen again in November. In the meantime, you can ask your energy supplier if you will be eligible for the discount to be paid to you before March 2023

• If you were born on or before 25 September 1956, you could get between £250 and £600 to help pay your heating bills

• The amount you get includes a ‘Pensioner Cost of Living Payment’ of between £150 and £300. This extra amount will only be paid this winter (2022-2023)

• You will get your Winter Fuel Payment automatically, so you don’t need to claim. If you’re unsure you can call the helpline on 0800 731 0160

The government has set aside a billion pounds in a fund for people who need extra assistance with essentials like food, energy and clothing. To access the fund, you need to apply directly to your local council
